Installing LearnPad on the Samsung Galaxy Note

The instructions below show the installation process for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1:

1. From the home screen, you can access the Settings menu by tapping in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen

   

2. From the Security section of the Settings menu, ensure you have a tick in the Unknown Sources option (to allow installations of applications from other sources). Accept the warning when prompted.

   

3. Open a web browser (the Internet option on the home screen) and ensure that you are connected to the internet.

   

4. Navigate to http://learnpad.co/install, which will automatically download the installation APK file and notify you in the status bar as shown below. Once downloaded, press it to initiate the installation of the LearnPad config application and press Install to confirm.

   

5. Once installed, press Open to open the application. You will see the config screen shown below.

   

6. Press the Check Now link. This will initiate a download and installation of additional applications. You will see a number of installation dialogs pop up, press to install each of these in turn and when prompted, press the done button after installation

   

7. After the installations have completed, press the Home key. You will see a Complete action using dialogue box. Select LearnPad then press the Always button. You will then see the LearnPad interface.

   

8. To lock LearnPad so that only the approved applications and websites can be accessed, press the Lock LearnPad button. The first time this is done you will be asked to enable the Device Administrator and Accessibility Service as shown below.

   

9. Select the LearnPad Config option from the Accessibility > Serivces section. On the LearnPad Config page, activate the service by moving the slider in the top right-hand corner of the screen. You may be prompted to Disable the Air view service, which you should accept by pressing the Disable button on the prompt.

   

10. The LearnPad should now be locked and ready for class. You should be automatically taken back to the LearnPad home page.

    

11. You will now need to enroll your device and select a lesson.

12. Below are some useful QrKeys for LearnPad unlocks and profile changes. The Samsung profile contains a category with activities for accessing device-specific applications such as S Note. Use the built-in camera to scan a QrKey and download a profile.

Troubleshooting

• When trying to download LearnPad I get the message "Failed to download"

  Make sure you have access to the LearnPad data server by going to http://data.learnpad.co/index.htm. If you cannot see this website from your LearnPad, contact your local IT administrator.

  Make sure your network allows Android application (APK) files by downloading the file to your desktop or laptop computer. If it won't download, contact your local IT administrator.

• The tablet is talking when in certain apps like TouchWiz Home

  This is a fault in the way some Samsung devices handle accessibility services (in this case, the LearnPad service). The TalkBack accessibility service is being triggered despite being inactive. More information is available on Samsung's website.
